In place of Joe Biden, who would the Democratic nominee be?

Since incumbent US President Joe Biden withdrew from the contest, Kamala harris, the vice president of the United States, has emerged as one of the leading contenders to be the Democratic nominee in the US presidential election. In a post on X, Joe Biden declared that he would not run for reelection "in the best interests" of his party and nation. He also supported Kamala harris, his vice president, becoming the new Democratic nominee in the same office. The President's endorsement is "honored to have, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination," Kamala harris answered in a statement as well.

Kamala Harris: who is she?

Donald J. harris, a professor, and Shyama Gopalan, a tamil biologist, were the parents of Kamala Devi harriswho was born in California. Following her parents' divorce, Kamala harris and her mother attended a number of different schools before deciding to pursue her bachelor's degree at Howard University, a prestigious all-black university. After earning a degree in political science and economics, Kamala harris decided to pursue a career in law, joining the bar association in 1990. In the same year, she began working as a deputy district attorney in California. In 2003, she was chosen to serve as San Francisco's district attorney.

She served as California's elected attorney general for two terms, from 2010 to 2014. She was elected as a junior US senator from her state in 2017. She was elected to the Senate as the first Southeast Asian woman and the second African American woman. harris became well-known for her advocacy of gun control measures, immigration citizenship, and health and tax changes. She entered the 2020 US presidential race but withdrew in favor of Democratic contender Joe Biden, who then invited her to serve as his vice president.

The link with India

As former US President Donald Trump's drive for reelection gains traction, harris will have an uphill battle to secure her party's selection. harris would be the first woman of indian descent to run for office in American politics if she were to win the nomination. In addition, if she were elected president, she would become the nation's first woman and person of indian descent. Given that JD Vance, the Republican nominee for vice president, is married to an indian and so appeals to the immigrant voter base, her identify as an indian is expected to play a significant role in the next elections.
