Presidential election heats up, all eyes on Kamala Harris!!!

US Vice President Kamala harris has emerged as the most likely Democratic nominee for President after announcing her candidacy, accepting Joe Biden's campaign apparatus, receiving support from prominent members of the party, and raising $50 million in less than 48 hours after Biden withdrew from the race and gave her his endorsement on Sunday. As yet, no other Democratic candidate has declared their intention to run for the party's nomination. However, it is quite probable that the Democrats will hold a so-called "open convention," in which contenders court delegates to cast their votes in the absence of an early nominee.

In her opening remarks on Sunday, harris, 59, praised Biden's accomplishments and described his choice to forego a run for reelection as a “selfless and patriotic act” of putting the needs of the nation above his own. Following his debate performance against 78-year-old Donald Trump, which revealed age-related weaknesses, party elders, elected officials, contributors, and voters called for Biden, 80, to step down in favor of a younger candidate, Biden found himself under intense pressure. Biden ultimately caved into pressure after three weeks of defiance, according to reports, as polls indicated there was no chance for him to win.

"I want to prove myself worthy of this nomination and win the President's approval. For the past year, I have been touring the country and talking to people about the clear choice in this historic election. And I will continue to do so throughout the coming days and weeks. "I will do the entirety in my strength to bring together the Democratic party and the entire country so as to defeat Donald Trump," said Harris.  She stated that there were 107 days remaining before the elections. Together, we will fight. And together, we'll succeed.

The DNC chair, Jaime Harrison, stated that the party will follow a “apparent and efficient approach to move ahead as a united Democratic party with a candidate” in spite of the unpredictability surrounding the next stages. The party's stated policies and procedures will govern the management of the process. "Our delegate squad is prepared to take on the task of presenting a candidate to the American public in a timely manner," he stated. The party also said that the public will be able to see the activities of the rules committee meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday in order to establish a protocol.
