A recent Economic survey found that poor diets are the cause of 54% of ailments in India. According to the report, immediate preventative action is needed to curb the nation's soaring obesity rate. Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, brought up this survey in today's parliament.

According to the paper, it is necessary to prevent the intake of foods high in sugar and processed foods. people should be encouraged to adopt healthier lives by eating a balanced diet and getting frequent exercise. According to the economic study, obesity in the senior population is a worrying issue. According to estimates, India's adult obesity rate has more than quadrupled, while the country's juvenile obesity rate is rising at the fastest rate globally, trailing only namibia and Vietnam, according to the poll.
 
The survey's findings indicate that metropolitan regions have greater rates of obesity than rural ones. In urban regions, obesity rates are 29.8%, whereas in rural ones they are 19.3%. The prevalence of obesity among males between the ages of 18 and 65 rose from 18.9% to 22.9%. Among women, it went from 20.6% to 24%.


According to the poll, the obesity percentage in a few states is alarming. Three-quarters of males and forty-one percent of women in Delhi, the nation's capital, suffer from obesity. Thirteen percent of males and 40.4% of women in tamil Nadu are obese. Third place goes to Andhra Pradesh, where 31.1% of males and 36.3% of women are obese.

It is imperative that the government raise people's knowledge of the consequences of obesity and motivate them to take up healthy habits like eating less and working out frequently.
