There is a serious possibility that at least 110 villages in the mandals of Cherla, Dummugudem, bhadrachalam, Burgampahad, Aswapuram, Manuguru, and pinapaka would be inundated due to the increasing levels of the godavari river near Bhadrachalam.

The Godavari's water level had already reached 49.04 feet by monday evening, July 22, and 48 feet by monday afternoon, July 22, when the second flood alarm was issued by the authorities. The third alarm will sound if it gets to 53 feet.

In the district, almost 110 villages would be submerged if the Godavari water level rises to 73 feet. It should be noted that last week's breach of the Peddavagu project in Aswaraopeta mandal in the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district resulted in the submersion of tens of villages.

At bhadrachalam, the Godavari's water level was 73 feet in 2023. The irrigation (command area development) authorities in the aforementioned mandals of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district have compiled a list of villages that are vulnerable to flooding based on their experience. They forecast how many mandals there are in each of these locations that may eventually be flooded when the water level rises.

Based on observations made by the irrigation department, three villages in Cherla mandal and ten villages in Dummugudem mandal would be under water if the water level reaches 48 to 53 feet.

Nine villages in Aswapuram mandal, six villages in Manuguru mandal, five more villages in Cherla mandal, five more villages in Dummugudem mandal (including the mandal headquarters), five more villages in bhadrachalam mandal headquarters, five more villages in Burgampahad mandal (including the mandal headquarters), and more than three villages in pinapaka mandal would be submerged when the water level fell to 53 to 58 feet.

If the Godavari water level reaches between 58 and 63 feet, 6 more villages in Cherla mandal will be submerged.

Six additional villages in Cherla Mandal, about twenty villages, including Kothagudem, one more village in Burgampahad Mandal, and four villages in pinapaka Mandal would be submerged when the water level is between 63 and 68 feet.

However, six additional villages in Cherla mandal, fifteen more villages in Dummugudem mandal, and two more villages in Aswapuram mandal would be submerged when the Godavari level hits between 68 and 73 feet.
