Chief minister M K stalin announced that he would not attend the august 27 niti aayog meeting in Delhi, nor any other meeting called by prime minister Narendra Modi, in protest of the State's complete disregard in the Union Budget, which he claimed had given preferential treatment to States like andhra pradesh and bihar for blatantly political reasons, depriving tamil Nadu of necessary funding and new road or rail projects.

Speaking to the media at the DMK headquarters in Anna Arivalayam on tuesday following the budget's presentation by Union Finance minister Nirmala Seetharam in parliament, stalin expressed his disappointment, claiming that the people of the State were being victimised for opposing communal forces during the lok sabha elections.

Stalin cited Modi's recent declaration that politics should not be allowed to interfere with governance, saying that this sentiment was not reflected in the budget, which primarily benefited the states whose ruling parties helped the bjp Government, which was then a minority, gain a majority. However, it remained unclear whether or not these commitments would be honoured, as demonstrated by the release of funds for the chennai Metro rail project.

He also mentioned his own idea of using welfare programs to help both those who voted for his party and those who did not, saying that a union budget should also seek to satisfy the needs and expectations of the entire nation. The bjp government's budget did not even include the word "Tamil Nadu," let alone any special plans for the State or the funding release for the Metro rail, which had been delayed for three years. He also pointed out that earlier announced projects like the railways, the Metro rail for madurai and Coimbatore, and the flyover linking tambaram and Chengalpattu had not been included.

Stalin responded to a question about whether the State was being ignored because the DMK-led alliance easily won all 40 seats in the election, saying that although the bjp was still furious about the outcome, it was confident that the State would continue to run its affairs as it had been doing up to that point. Additionally, he stated that all State members of parliament had been granted the permission to begin a protest and that the DMK will take up the struggle to protect people's rights and obtain their rightful entitlements to the people forum.
