The owner and coordinator of the coaching centre in Delhi’s Old Rajender nagar, where three students drowned in the basement after it was flooded due to heavy rain, were arrested and booked under charges of culpable homicide among others. police identified the owner as abhishek Gupta and the other accused as Deshpal Singh.Disaster rescue teams retrieved the bodies of two females and one male from the site after seven hours while students staged a protest outside against the authorities. police identified the victims as Shreya Yadav of Ambedkar nagar in Uttar Pradesh, tanya Soni from telangana and Navin Dalwin from ernakulam in Kerala.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) ended its search of the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle. Deputy commissioner of police (central) M harsha vardhan said: “NDRF’s search operation has ended and three bodies have been recovered. NDRF’s rescue operation went on for around seven hours.”The DCP said they are looking at CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events. According to the delhi fire Department (DFS), a call about waterlogging was received from the coaching centre around 7 pm on saturday (July 27) and that that there was a possibility that some people were trapped.

Police said it appeared that the basement got flooded fast due to which some people were trapped inside. A fire department official said a total of five tenders were rushed to the site and the basement was full of water when they arrived.

Ropes were used to evacuate the trapped students, officials said. The furniture at the coaching centre was floating and created obstruction in the rescue operation, a police officer said.

“The work (to clear the basement) is almost complete. Three to four inches of water is left. The MCD has installed all the machines. The building, including the basement, is completely empty. No one is trapped,” said MCD supervisor Rishipal.“The water has receded now but enough is enough… This is a completely criminal activity, strict action should be taken against the officials who are responsible… Desilting (of drain) was done but still, there should be an inquiry and if someone is responsible, strict action should be taken… Delhi’s drainage system has collapsed and the reason for this is that the bjp was in power for 15 years. We have been here for the last one year and are working on the drains, but I do not want to get into any blame game, I want it to be investigated and strict action should be taken against whoever is responsible…” said AAP leader Durgesh Pathak, who is the mla of Old Rajender Nagar.

Earlier this week, a 26-year-old civil services aspirant was electrocuted after he touched an iron gate following heavy rain in central Delhi’s patel nagar area.
