Born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Sunita grew up in a tiny village in uttarakhand called Haldwani. The first twenty-five years of her life were spent there. When she was younger, she was ashamed of her father's occupation as a truck driver.

"Back then I couldn't understand the depth of the fact that my father was a truck driver and he is making us study in such a big institution," Sunita recounted in an interview with wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>digital Commentary.

"I used to feel ashamed," she added. How can I explain that my father is a truck driver in a school like this when kids in my school used to have their drivers drop them off and staff make their lunches?"

Sunita said that she had loved dancing since she was a young child. She said that there weren't many activities in Haldwani, other from Ramleela, because it was such a tiny town.

At Ramleela, she used to dance as a youngster. Sunita eventually relocated to Nainital.

Being pigeonholed into roles of domestic assistant Sunita Rajwar had to abandon her acting career. She considered herself fortunate to have gained new fans for her performances as kranti Devi in panchayat and Bittu's mother in Gullak.
