Eleven people have died in landslides in Kerala's wayanad, and 225 army soldiers have been sent in to assist with rescue efforts, according to a statement released by officials on Tuesday. Massive landslides that occurred in the early hours of tuesday struck the Meppadi region in wayanad, resulting in at least 11 deaths and numerous suspected injuries. According to the statement, the army was sent a request on tuesday morning to assist civil authority. Four columns have been deployed by the army in response, including two columns from the 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and two from the DSC Centre, Kannur.

It's possible that hundreds of individuals were stranded. "Approximately 225 soldiers, including medical personnel, have been deployed by the army to date for the rescue operation," the statement stated. According to defence sources, in reaction to the major landslip in Chooralmala, wayanad district, the kerala State Administration has requested rescue columns of 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) MADRAS.
 
They stated that 40 troops, a Medical Officer, two JCOs, and a team under the command of the Second-in-Command had mobilised to support continuing rescue operations. According to the kerala State Disaster Management Authority, on tuesday at about 3.49 am, landslides happened in Meppadi panchayat, Vythiri taluk. In Wayanad's Chooralmala, 250 personnel from the fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF, and local Emergency Response Teams are working on the rescue mission. According to the KSDMA, another NDRF team is on their way.
