Some Olympic competitors become household names because they excel in their sport. Some people are just plain awesome. A select handful are both. Yusuf Dikeç, a Turkish Olympic shooter, caused a meme frenzy on wednesday after earning the silver medal in the mixed team air pistol competition.
 
When it came to maximising his performance in a sport where many competitors employ every piece of technology available, Dikeç was totally lo-fi, wearing merely normal glasses and striking a comfortable attitude. He and Şevval İlayda Tarhan came in second, just behind Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunović of Serbia.
 
Although Dikeç, 51, has long been regarded as one of Europe's most proficient shooters, this is his first Olympic medal. Yusuf Dikec's cool-as-cetera manner stole the show. He stood there with his weapon steady in one hand and his other carelessly tucked in his pocket. He appeared to be in total control, unconcerned by the high-stakes finale, and like a total boss.

His poised demeanour not only demonstrated his extraordinary talent but also made an enduring impact on all those in attendance. It's Turkey's first-ever Olympic medal in shooting, so this silver medal is really significant. Osman Askin Bak, the minister of youth and Sports, was present to personally encourage them. It was an honourable occasion for turkey and a crucial turning point in the country's Olympic quest.
