Three civil services aspirants died in the basement of a coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder nagar, sparking protests from students. In response, several UPSC coaching centres have offered financial support to the victims and free classes to other students from Rau's IAS, the location of the incident.

Tanya Soni from Telangana, Nevin Dalwin from Kerala, and Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar nagar all perished on July 27 after Rau's IAS basement library, which was functioning illegally, flooded following a period of heavy rain. Since then, the MCD has closed a large number of these libraries and destroyed the unlawful buildings of a number of other institutions.
