In recent years, hyderabad has seen a dramatic growth in the number of automobiles on the road in tandem with the city's growing urbanisation. There is a lot of traffic in the city since there are more than 80 lakh vehicles, of which over 14 lakh are automobiles. Greater hyderabad now has a notably higher vehicle population. There were around 9.20 lakh automobiles in 2017, and by 2024, there would be 14.82 lakh.
 
The number of vehicles in the city has tripled between 2014 and 2023. According to statistics, the number of automobiles added to the city increased from 42.20 lakh in 2014 to as much as 83.5 lakh in 2023. The number of registered automobiles in the city climbed from 54 lakh in 2019 to 80.43 lakh in april 2024. hyderabad saw the addition of 16,150 new automobiles in 2023 alone.
 
Officials from the Transport Department predict that by 2033–2034, hyderabad will have 1,60,46,853 vehicles.
 
They said that the city's development as a key IT hub in the nation and the accessibility of its excellent infrastructure had made it possible for more cars to use the roadways, which has resulted in traffic jams and clogged highways, finally turning the city into an auto-centric one.
 
However, residents are worried about the city, which often has hours-long traffic jams, particularly during the monsoon. The increased volume of cars may further impede vehicular traffic flow. The problem is that most other people choose to commute every day in their own cars, which exacerbates traffic jams.
