A family who made it out of the Chooralmala landslip in wayanad carries with them a moving story of kindness, survival, and the tacit connection that exists between people and nature. sujatha Aninanchira and her family were left in a potentially fatal predicament after a large landslip destroyed their home in Chooralmala, according to an article published in The Times of India. Sujatha, her daughter Sujitha, her husband Kuttan, and their grandkids Sooraj (age 18) and Mridula (age 12) were trapped beneath the rubble and faced what can be deemed the most audacious escape.

Sujatha, who worked as a tea picker for eighteen years at the Harrisons malayalam Tea Estate in Mundakkai, described their terrifying experience as follows: "On monday night, I woke up at 1.15am due to heavy rain that started at 4pm." Before long, I heard a tremendous noise, and water began to pour into our home. When our house's roof fell on us, my daughter suffered severe injuries. After extracting a few bricks from the crumbling wall, I left.

Sujatha was able to escape by removing a few bricks from the crumbling wall. She struggled to retrieve her granddaughter out of the debris after hearing her cries. After battling their way out of the rushing floods and wading to a small mound, the remaining family members likewise succeeded in saving themselves.

When they arrived at the mound, they were terrified to see a tusker and two female elephants standing only a few inches away.

As the night deepened, sujatha and her granddaughter lay down in fear, clinging to an areca nut tree.

"It was completely dark, and a wild tusker was standing only a few feet away from us. It seems scared as well. sujatha was cited as stating, "I muttered a plea to the elephant, saying we had just survived a disaster and asked it allow us to lie down for the night and let someone rescue us."

The tusker appeared to recognise their plight and remained still, without causing them any harm.

"We were very close to the tusker's legs, but it seemed to understand our predicament. We stayed there till 6am, and the elephants also stood there till we were rescued by some people in the morning. I could see its eyes welling up as the dawn broke," she recalled.
