Violence in Bangladesh: 91 dead, internet services halted...

Following the resumption of violence in the South Asian nation that has left over 72 people dead, including 14 police officers, and hundreds injured, the indian Embassy in bangladesh released an advice advising indian nationals living there to "remain alert."

Utilizing the microblogging platform X, the indian Embassy in Sylhet shared a message stating, "All indian nationals, including students, who reside within the jurisdiction of the Assistant High Commission of India, Sylhet, are encouraged to stay vigilant and in contact with this office." In case of emergency, the indian Embassy has also provided a contact number. The indian Embassy posted, "In case of emergencies, please contact +88-01313076402."

Students' Protests

In a fresh round of violence in bangladesh on sunday, police used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse tens of thousands of protestors demanding the resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, leaving at least 91 people dead—including 14 police officers—and scores injured. 

The fights started this morning when activists from the Chhatra League, Jubo League, and the Awami League opposed the demonstrators who were part of a non-cooperation movement demanding the resignation of the administration. "91 people have been killed in day-long clashes across the country so far," PTI said, quoting an important daily in Bengali, Prothom Alo. Fourteen police officers have died nationwide, according to the police headquarters. Thirteen of them were murdered inside the Enayetpur police station in Sirajganj. According to the publication, there was a single fatality in Elliotganj, Comilla.

curfew in place for the entire nation

The home Ministry declared an indefinite nationwide curfew starting at 6 p.m. today in response to the violence. In an effort to curb the propagation of rumors, the government has also mandated the closure of social media sites including Instagram, WhatsApp, facebook Messenger, and Messenger. The report further stated that the cell carriers have been told to stop providing 4G mobile internet. prime minister Hasina has stated that terrorists, not students, are the ones committing acts of "sabotage" around the nation in the guise of protest. She has requested that they be firmly suppressed.
