In a concerted attempt to attain signal-free commutes, hyderabad implemented U-turns in place of intersections to better facilitate free-flowing traffic. Sadly, it has only succeeded in creating traffic jams, wasting minutes making U-turns and using more petrol.

Road safety experts have long argued that this would simply make matters worse, and some have also pointed the finger at drivers' poor driving habits. For whatever reason, drivers in hyderabad these days have to take the long route around, weaving through a cacophonous tangle of cars. The U-turns next to IKEA, the Sky view Building, the Begumpet and Shaikpet flyovers, and other locations are a few instances of these tiresome effects. These curves frequently leave motorists feeling irritated at several points across the city.

During rush hour, commuters must drive additional meters to make turns, resulting in wasted time and fuel. This is especially true in areas of the IT Hub. For example, to make a U-turn towards dallas Centre or the Sky view Building from the Raidurg Metro Station at the TGSPDCL substation, you would need to drive to the Hitec Tech City Flyover end. This distance is nearly a km. The U-turn beneath the Shaikpet Flyover is comparable.

But not all drivers follow the law while doing lengthy U-turns; some find it easier to drive on the wrong side. Most locations where U-turns are simply extended out are home to these kind of drivers. This extends to four-wheelers and tempos in addition to two-wheelers. Some are also utilising the little byways through adjacent colonies to cross over to the main road in an effort to reduce the amount of kilometres they travel the incorrect way.

Traffic police have placed blocks in some locations to provide room for those doing U-turns, in an attempt to facilitate the process. But all this is doing is making the road narrower, which makes things more difficult for cars approaching from behind. These barriers block one lane at the Begumpet intersection. Despite the flyover, a lot of drivers choose to use this route, which is becoming crowded as a result of people doing U-turns.

Furthermore, four-wheelers typically hog one or two lanes when doing a U-turn. U-turn drivers take up half of the three or four lanes on most major highways, which causes congestion.
