The much awaited koratala Siva-directed pan-Indian film Devara Part 1, starring ntr and Janhvi Kapoor, has music by Anirudh. Chuttamalle, the film's second song, was released today to varying reviews from viewers. It's a passable song, nothing special. Furthermore, a lot of people have noticed similarities between it and Yohani's popular Sri Lankan song Manike Mage Hithe.

Chuttamalle's song has been compared to Manike Mage Hithe, according to some social media users who claim Anirudh stole the song's melody. Remarks such as "Anirudh pilfered this melody" have been making the rounds, undermining the reputation of the young composer. These charges have been disheartening given Anirudh's stellar reputation and expanding fan following among younger viewers. How could Anirudh or anybody else on the crew miss the fact that it sounds so much like Yohani's song, even if it happened accidentally?

Over time, the soundtrack's opening song gained popularity despite its original lack of effect. But because of how much the second song sounds like the viral hit, criticism of it has already been voiced. Janhvi Kapoor's glitzy performance and shilpa Rao's seductive vocals in the song hint that it may yet become quite successful.

But both detractors and admirers of Anirudh have expressed doubts in light of the dispute surrounding his originality. Anirudh finally had the chance to write music for a big pan-Indian movie that wasn't in Tamil, but the song he produced was quite similar to Yohani's viral hit.
