Pakistan PM trolled for 'Stealing Credit' for Arshad Nadeem's Olympic Gold

Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif was quick to congratulate 27-year-old Arshad Nadeem on X for his historic achievement as he secured gold in the javelin throw, adding Pakistan's name to the 2024 Olympic medal list. But in addition to the comment, Sharif included an old photo of himself handing Nadeem a cheque for Rs 1 million, which incited outrage and led to a plethora of parodies on social media.

A video featuring Pakistani lawmaker Rana Mashood praising Shehbaz Sharif for granting Nadeem permission to compete in the olympics in paris is adding petrol to the flames. Mashood and Sharif are seen in the video rejoicing after Nadeem wins his first Olympic gold medal on thursday night after throwing a record-breaking 92.97 meters.

In addition, Nadeem's achievement made him the first Pakistani to win an individual Olympic gold medal, since Neeraj Chopra, the "golden boy" of India, had to settle for silver. Chopra, who won gold in the olympics in Tokyo, finished second with the greatest performance of the season, 89.45 meters. His government-sponsored trip to paris notwithstanding, his cry for a new javelin, made just months before the olympics, went viral on social media and was even taken up by Neeraj Chopra.
