The win in the GVMC Standing Committee elections has invigorated the coalition leaders, namely the tdp, janasena, and BJP. They currently hold 10 seats in the Standing Committee, after going without representation for three and a half years. Securing the mayor's seat is the next objective for the alliance leaders. With a majority in the council, they are putting further pressure on leaders of the state government to change the legislation so that a no-confidence resolution against the mayor may be filed. GVMC officials are speculating that a decision on this would be made at the next cabinet meeting.

The GVMC mayor's seat was acquired by the ysr congress Party (YSRCP) in elections that took place less than three and a half years ago, as they won 59 wards. After YSRCP gained control at the state level, three tdp corporators and four independents joined the party, giving it a commanding advantage in GVMC. Since then, the three Standing Committee elections have seen YSRCP corporators continuously win every seat. YSRCP leaders would ignore the opposition's protests and put their chosen subjects on the agenda for Standing Committee and Council sessions.

Now that they have control of the Standing Committee, tdp and janasena leaders and corporators are attempting to win the mayoralty. But the clause mandating a minimum four-year term has turned into a roadblock in the way of approving a resolution of no-confidence in the mayor. Leaders of the alliance have thus asked the government to change the legislation. Alliance leaders anticipate that the topic of changing the legislation to permit a no-confidence motion before the conclusion of the four-year term will come up at the next cabinet meeting because this is a problem that impacts several local bodies around the state.
