There were some outstanding performances in the women's pole vault competition at the paris Olympics 2024, with Australia's Nina Kennedy winning the gold. Kennedy achieved a historic first for australia in the women's pole vault gold medal event, clearing a height of 4.90 meters. At the global Championships in Budapest last year, American Katie moon, the reigning champion who shared the global gold with Kennedy, took home the silver medal. moon and Alysha Newman of canada both cleared 4.85 meters, and moon won the silver on countback.

Bronze medallist Alysha Newman garnered media attention for both her physical prowess and her unusual celebration. After feigning an injury during the tournament, Newman went viral for her twerking celebration. She further said that her goal was to make light of the situation by pulling pranks on her instructors. In an interview with usmagazine.com, Newman remarked, "I decided to scare my coaches to make them lighten up. I'm always injured and I'm always getting back on the horse." "I pretended to be hurt and then danced since there are pictures of them looking incredibly solemn and emotional. I had no intention of twerking, but it all came together rather naturally."

Newman was undeterred by the criticism she received for her celebration. "The people whose opinions count to me are my friends, family, coaches, and agents. I would be more offended if somebody said anything hurtful," she remarked. However, I have a firm mental foundation, so I don't take offense when others criticize me. Nobody can truly relate to what it's like to be in my position."
