Violence, curfew..., MBBS student returned from Bangladesh…

In this sequence, Sabia Khan Pathan, daughter of Haji Sabir Khan Pathan, councilor of Ward 14 of Mandaleshwar Municipal Council of Khargone, overcame the tension and challenge in bangladesh and returned safely to india on 6 August.

Sabia Khan Pathan lived in Mirzapur, bangladesh, where she was a final year MBBS student at Kumudini Women's Medical College. Sabia was living amidst the ongoing protests and violence in Bangladesh. Currently, she has returned safely to her country.

Curfew, internet shutdown cut off connection with the outside world

Sabia told that on July 17, the situation started deteriorating there, after which a nationwide curfew was imposed in the whole of Bangladesh. Along with this, the internet was shut down. Sabia told that the curfew was imposed suddenly and our contact with the outside world was cut off.

The curfew imposed to control the situation isolated many people. Sabia's college campus in Mirzapur, 50 km from Dhaka, was safe, but chaos prevailed in the capital Dhaka and other major cities, creating an atmosphere of fear. Sabia said that we were lucky that our college management was understanding the problems of us students. She told that the administration was giving regular updates to everyone and essential services were continued within the campus. She told that for many days we had no way to contact our families in India.

Reached airport in police patrol vehicles

The indian High Commission in bangladesh played an important role in ensuring the safety of indian students. Sabia (21) along with other indian students was in touch with the High Commission through the Madad Helpline. When the situation in bangladesh worsened further on august 4, the High Commission started action to evacuate the students. Sabia told that the college management and the High Commission made every possible effort to evacuate all the students safely. She told that on the night of august 5, the students were taken to Dhaka airport through police patrol vehicles. The students faced another challenge upon reaching the airport as scheduled flights were cancelled due to the crisis.
