The condition of roads in andhra pradesh has become worse in the last five years. Before coming to power, the leaders of the alliance severely criticized the previous government, saying that the roads in the state were not repaired due to the non-repair of the roads during the previous government. They promised that they would take up the reconstruction of the roads as soon as they came to power. The concerned authorities were ordered to undertake the construction in full. But at present there is no money in the government treasury even for the construction of roads. Keeping in view the severe hardships of the people due to the damaged roads, Chandrababu ordered the concerned officials to construct some important roads under the PPP system. It is suggested that tenders be invited to that extent. In this system, private contractors will first build the road and set up a toll gate for some time, and collect money from the motorists. After that, the road will be handed over to the government. As a result, the public and the motorists will be charged heavily in the form of toll fees without any burden on the government.
Clarity needs to come on whether the toll fee will be collected from the motorists or the government will bear the burden without the toll fee. But for now, this project is in the design of the procedures. The government has decided to first construct 27 roads that are badly damaged with potholes and important for public needs across the state. A total of 1778 kilometers of these roads will be constructed under the PPP system.
