Half of the ponds and johads in delhi are 'missing'…?

A report has come regarding the data of water bodies in delhi, in which a shocking revelation has been made. It has been told that about 50 percent of the reservoirs do not exist in reality, that is, they do not exist now. This information has come to light in a survey of the delhi government. According to the Hindustan Times report, these reservoirs are either missing or have been encroached upon. Let us tell you that recently there was a news in which it was told how a pond in bihar disappeared overnight. Actually, the land mafia had filled it with sand and leveled it. However, people are also surprised by the encroachment on the reservoirs in the capital Delhi.

The delhi government had presented the report in the court

The delhi government had presented its report in the high court in april this year, in which it was told that there are a total of 1367 reservoirs in the capital, out of which there are lakes and ponds. After this, the high court had asked to go to the ground and conduct a survey. After that, the delhi State Wetland Authority and the Revenue Department conducted a survey in the same month. They have examined 1291 water reservoirs but only 656 of these are in existence and 635 are only present in the records.

The condition of east delhi is the worst

If we talk about water reservoirs area-wise, only 216 out of 330 are in existence in South-West while 135 out of 249 are present in North Delhi. 78 out of 190 are in existence in South delhi while 97 out of 130 are left in North-West Delhi. The condition of east delhi is very bad because there are 50 water reservoirs in the records but only six are in existence.

The investigation on the remaining water reservoirs will be completed soon

It is being told that the investigation is going on regarding the remaining 76 water reservoirs and will be completed in a few months. An officer will be appointed to maintain the water reservoirs which are in existence. It will be the responsibility of this officer to visit the reservoirs every 15 days and ensure that they are in good condition and there is no encroachment on them.
