Udaipur Student Dies from Knife Wounds Hours After Rakhi Ceremony


A 15-year-old student from udaipur, Rajasthan, succumbed to injuries from a knife attack on Monday.

Following the attack, senior officials, including the district Collector and the SP, visited udaipur Hospital where the postmortem and other formalities are being conducted, according to udaipur SP yogesh Goyal. The victim, named Devraj, was attacked inside a government school in the Surajpol police station area on august 16 at around 10:30 a.m. He had been under medical care for the past four days.


Before his death, Devraj’s sister tied a rakhi on his wrist in the hospital to mark Raksha Bandhan, udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal reported.

In response to the incident and ongoing tensions, extensive security measures have been implemented across the city, with mobile internet services suspended due to recent communal unrest.


Inspector General of police Ajaypal Lamba confirmed that Devraj passed away during treatment on Monday, and his body has been moved to the mortuary for postmortem. Once the procedure is completed, the body will be returned to his family.

Heavy police presence has been established outside the district hospital and throughout various city areas to ensure law and order.

The attack occurred on friday when Devraj was assaulted by another student over a dispute. The suspect and his father were subsequently detained and arrested.

In reaction to the violence, members of Hindu organizations burned vehicles at a motor garage and vandalized a shop in a mall. Amid the unrest, all government and private schools in the area have been closed until further notice, mobile internet services remain suspended, and prohibitory orders banning public gatherings are in effect.
