Purpose of Kosi-Mechi river linking project!!!

The main purpose of this scheme is to provide water for farming in Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar districts. These districts fall in the area of Mahananda river, where there is a shortage of water. With this scheme, these districts will be able to get water for Kharif crops. This water will come from the water stored in Hanuman nagar dam. At present, there is no arrangement for storing water in this scheme, but there is a plan to build Kosi High Dam later. If this dam is built, then water can be stored in it.

There is a total of 4,45,000 hectares of land in the area of Mahananda river in which farming can be done. With this scheme, 2,15,000 hectares of land will be irrigated. Water is already reaching the rest of the land. In this way, more water of Kosi river will be taken to the area of Mahananda river through this scheme.
