The incident occurred two days after an IAF fighter aircraft experienced a technical issue that led to the unintentional discharge of "air store" close to the Pokhran firing range in the jaisalmer area of Rajasthan, according to authorities.

Officials stated that the object that was discharged was a practice bomb that was meant to be dropped on pre-designated locations during bombing exercises. According to them, the practice bomb detonated in an open area, resulting in an explosion and a crater at the impact location close to the Pakistani border.

There were no recorded injuries or property damages. The reason of the technological problem that resulted in the unintentional release of the air storage was investigated.
