Recently, kannada film actor Rishab Shetty made waves across the country when he was awarded a National Award for his performance in Kantara. But his open views regarding bollywood and how india is portrayed in its movies have sparked a contentious discussion. The kannada actor claimed in a recent interview that bollywood frequently portrays india negatively.

He says a lot of bollywood movies don't really show india as it is; instead, they concentrate more on getting worldwide recognition and invites to foreign events and red carpets. Rishab Shetty highlighted that he chooses to represent his country, state, and language in a favorable light on the international scene since these are the things that make him proud.

Bollywood supporters were incensed, while followers of South indian film applauded him for what he said. They chastised Shetty for saying such things because they believed that Kantara was full of violent, filthy, and harsh situations. social media users expressed their opinions on the subject, and the platform soon turned into a battlefield.

One user commented on X, “Kantara itself objectified women in so many ways, could never get the fuss about it.” Another added, “Insulting the hindi film industry is in fashion nowadays.”

Some commenters supported bollywood, citing its contributions to the film industry as examples of historical storylines, patriotic films, and films including women. A remark criticising Shetty stated, "Success is temporary, but pinching female waist & shitting on bollywood is permanent." This caused some of the replies to become more personal. A other commenter brought attention to the prejudice towards bollywood, saying, "What a jealous soul... Every business produces both good and poor movies, but bollywood will always remain their main focus.

"At least bollywood doesn't have a murderer like Darshan from the kannada industry who kills his own fans," said a guy who even went so far as to draw comparisons between it and the kannada film industry. Another prominent user chimed in, stating, "It's okay to criticize our films! Making fun of our famous stars is OK! It's OK to continually disparage our industry! However, they draw the line when someone from the hindi belt, Arshad Warsi, makes remarks against one of their "film characters," prabhas in Kalki. Perhaps Rishab Shetty's recent remarks weren't necessary at this time. For his next project, Kantara 2, to succeed, the hindi film industry and bollywood enthusiasts will need to lend their support.
