Ladakh to Gain Five New Districts for Improved local Governance
On Monday, Union home minister amit shah announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh. According to Shah's post on X, the Ministry of home Affairs decided on this measure to bring government benefits directly to the people.
The new districts will be Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang. Shah highlighted that this initiative aligns with prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a more developed and prosperous Ladakh. He noted that these districts will enhance governance and ensure that government services reach every area.
“The Modi government is committed to creating abundant opportunities for the people of Ladakh,” he wrote.
prime minister Modi supported the move, stating that the establishment of these districts will improve governance and bring more focused attention to Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang. He congratulated the people of Ladakh, expressing that this development would offer increased opportunities and services.
Ladakh MP, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, also praised the decision and said it would pave the way for the overall development of the Ladakh regionPresently, Ladakh has two districts – Leh and Kargil. and with the new districts, the Union Territory will now have a total of seven districts.
