BJP Alleges Crime Scene Contamination; kolkata police Responds

Allegations of Crime Scene Contamination
On Monday, the bharatiya janata party (BJP) raised serious concerns regarding the handling of the crime scene at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital in Kolkata. The allegations were made following the tragic rape and murder of a second-year PG student on august 9. According to the bjp, a video emerged showing a crowded seminar room where the body was found, with numerous individuals, including doctors, policemen, hospital staff, and outsiders, present at the scene.

Amit Malviya, the bjp IT cell head and West bengal in-charge, shared the footage on social media, highlighting what he described as a breach of protocol. The video reportedly shows several people, including Prasun Chattopadhyay (PA to former principal sandeep Ghosh), a lawyer, forensic experts, and other officials in the seminar room. Malviya criticized the kolkata police for not preventing the crowd from entering the crime scene, thereby potentially contaminating vital evidence. He questioned why outsiders were allowed in when the victim's family was denied access.

Political Criticism and government Intent
The BJP's criticism extended to the mamata banerjee government, suggesting possible attempts to cover up the crime. Malviya's statements raised concerns about the handling of the investigation and the apparent mishandling of the crime scene, referring to statements made by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta before the supreme Court. The BJP's allegations contribute to ongoing scrutiny of the state's response to the case.

Kolkata Police’s Response
In response to the BJP's allegations, the kolkata police issued a statement clarifying the situation. They asserted that the area was cordoned off immediately upon discovery of the body. The video in question, they said, shows the area outside the official cordon, where several individuals, including the victim’s family and medical staff, were present. According to the police, only a designated number of people, including police officials, forensic teams, and photographers, were permitted to enter the primary area of investigation.

Context and Implications
The case has had a profound impact, leading to widespread protests and significant scrutiny of RG Kar Medical college and Hospital. The principal of the hospital was removed from their position following the incident, and the case has been transferred from the kolkata police to the cbi by order of the calcutta High court on august 13.

The incident has sparked massive demonstrations by students and civil society, highlighting issues of safety and procedural integrity in the handling of such cases. The allegations of crime scene contamination further complicate an already tense situation, raising questions about the effectiveness and transparency of the ongoing investigation.
