A fresh research on trends in internet streaming has been produced by India's leading media consultancy group. It shows that the number of indians watching movies online has increased to 547.3 million (about 55 crores), or around 38.4% of the country's total population. This indicates a notable increase in video consumption—a 13.8% rise over the previous year.

The study shows that people's watching preferences for paid and free entertainment are changing. This year has witnessed a significant increase in ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD), which encompasses social media and YouTube platforms, expanding by 21%. On the other hand, SVOD (subscription-based video-on-demand) services, like Netflix and amazon Prime, have grown more slowly, declining by 2%. The majority of individuals view these films on their cellphones. Approximately 81% of people who watch internet videos do it just on mobile devices, with 97% of users using their phones.

An estimated 69.7 million people use connected TVs for streaming, demonstrating how popular they are. Only 99.6 million (about 10 crores) paid OTT subscriptions exist in india at the moment, although the average number of subscriptions per person has decreased to 2.5 from 2.8. This indicates a stagnation in OTT growth. This implies that although consumers are still paying for services, they could be reducing or combining their memberships.

According to the survey, smartphones are increasingly being used as the main device for watching internet films, and free material is attracting more viewers overall, especially in smaller cities and rural regions. Streaming services and media firms may use this information to better understand audience preferences and make informed judgments.
