Before becoming entangled in the tardy #MeToo movement, malayalam cinema enjoyed a golden age in 2024, with critically and financially successful productions. Aavesham and Manjummel Boys are two examples of movies that dazzled critics in addition to thrilling audiences. Premalu is a short romance drama about a coming-of-age. Premalu, which only had novices, produced Rs 136 crore on a mere Rs 3 crore budget and achieved a whopping Rs 4500% profit.
Kalki 2898 AD has made over Rs 1100 crore in revenue globally, making it the highest-grossing indian film of the year. But its profit margin is less than 100% because of its Rs 600-crore expenditure. Even though stree 2, with its smaller budget of Rs 60 crore, makes a larger profit (about 850% due to its Rs 570 crore global gross), it is still not quite as successful as Premalu. HanuMan, the telugu superhero movie, is the only movie resembling the malayalam success. HanuMan made Rs 350 crore on a budget of Rs 35 crore, or almost 900% profit.
