In her first high-stakes interview since the start of the campaign, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala harris rejected rival candidate Donald Trump's remarks on her racial identity on thursday (US time). "Same old tired playbook," she replied in response to CNN's Dana Bash's query on Trump's claims that harris had "turned Black" for political reasons.

Harris said to the reporter, "Please move on to the next question," without expanding on Trump's remarks. When discussing Republicans on Capitol Hill who have labeled Kamala harris as a "DEI hire," Republican presidential candidate donald trump incorrectly stated this month that harris, who has "Indian heritage," has "happened to turn Black."

"She solely promoted indian ancestry; she was of indian descent from the beginning. She turned Black a few years ago, and now she wants to be called Black. Before then, I had no idea she was Black. Thus, I'm not sure if she's Black or indian," the former president had remarked.

Born in Oakland, California, to an indian mother and a Jamaican father who had both moved to the US, harris is the first Asian American, Black, and female vice president. She studied at Washington's historically Black Howard University.
