PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for India’s Largest Deep-Water Port 'Vadhvan' in Maharashtra

On Friday, prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Vadhvan Port project in Palghar, Maharashtra. Positioned near Dahanu, Vadhvan is set to become one of India's largest deep-water ports.

The project, with an estimated cost of ₹76,000 crore, aims to establish a cutting-edge maritime hub that will bolster India’s trade capabilities. Alongside the port, PM Modi also inaugurated 218 fisheries projects worth approximately ₹1,560 crore to enhance the infrastructure and productivity of the fisheries sector nationwide, potentially creating over 500,000 jobs.

During the event, PM Modi highlighted the significance of these developments for Maharashtra’s growth, stating, “Today marks a major milestone in India’s development journey. A developed maharashtra is crucial for a developed India. Big decisions have consistently been made for maharashtra over the past decade and during my third term. The Vadhvan Port, with an investment of ₹76,000 crore, will be the largest container port in the country.”

Addressing the recent collapse of a 35-foot statue of Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj at rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg, PM Modi expressed his apologies for the incident, emphasizing his respect for the maratha king and his values. He apologized to those deeply hurt by the event, stating, “My values differ; nothing is greater to me than my Aaradhya Dev.”

State deputy chief minister devendra fadnavis praised PM Modi’s contributions, suggesting that his name would be remembered for 200 years due to this project. He also proposed the construction of an airport in Palghar as mumbai expands.

Union minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, celebrated the occasion as historic, noting, “This is a landmark day as India’s largest port is being built with PM Modi’s foundation stone. This port will provide significant employment opportunities for local youth, women, and others, with the potential to create 1.2 million jobs.”
