First Prototype of Vande Bharat Sleeper train Unveiled in India

India has introduced its first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach, unveiled by Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at BEML’s Bagaluru facility.

According to PTI, the new sleeper coach will undergo a test run for approximately 10 days before additional track testing. If results are satisfactory, the train is expected to begin operations for the public within the next three months. The Vande Bharat sleeper is reported to offer superior comfort compared to the Rajdhani Express and other models, providing a smooth long-distance travel experience.

The sleeper variant is designed to achieve a better average speed than the Rajdhani Express, thanks to its faster acceleration and deceleration. Once operational, it is expected to maintain an average speed of 160 km/h, with test speeds reaching up to 180 km/h.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train will feature multiple coaches, including 4 AC 2-tier coaches with 188 berths, 11 AC 3-tier coaches with 611 berths, and 1 AC First Class Coach with 24 berths.

The train will be equipped with top-notch amenities, such as GFRP panels, a sensor-based interior, automatic exterior passenger doors, an ergonomically designed, odor-free toilet system, communication doors, and a spacious luggage area, among other features.
