Two women Die in Wall Collapse Amidst Heavy Rains in Telangana

In Kothapalli, located in Telangana’s Narayanpet district, two women lost their lives when a wall collapsed due to severe rain. The heavy rainfall has been affecting various regions across the state. In response to the situation, chief minister A revanth reddy convened an emergency meeting with ministers, officials, and elected representatives on Sunday, september 1, to coordinate immediate relief efforts in flood-affected areas.

Hyderabad, the state capital, experienced significant waterlogging and tree falls as a result of relentless overnight rains. The india Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for the city, warning of heavy rain expected to continue into the evening. In light of the forecast, authorities have decided to close all schools in hyderabad district on Monday, september 2, to ensure the safety of children.

The South Central Railway reported disruptions due to the adverse weather, with six trains canceled and nine diverted because of waterlogging on the tracks in several areas.

Chief minister Reddy held an emergency review and instructed the establishment of control rooms in affected districts, including Suryapet, Khammam, Mahbubabad, and Warangal. He emphasized the importance of immediate relief measures and communicated with key ministers—Bhatti Vikramarka, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Damodara raja Narasimha, and Jupalli krishna Rao—regarding the status of relief operations.

The chief minister urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and advised those in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and contact authorities if they require assistance. He also directed ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs to remain in their respective areas to oversee relief efforts. A control room has been set up at the state secretariat to monitor the ongoing weather conditions.

The weather department has predicted moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h for Hyderabad. Additionally, there is a low to moderate risk of flash floods in the Ranga Reddy, hyderabad, Medchal, Vikarabad, and sangareddy districts. The orange alert remains in effect for hyderabad, with heavy rainfall expected to persist until the evening. Although no casualties have been reported in the city, waterlogging and tree fall incidents have been noted, with efforts underway to clear stagnant water. The flow into the Hussain Sagar Lake has also increased due to the heavy rains.
