A large amount of ganja, ganja oil, and other illegal items were found in the homes of approximately 500 residents of the gated community Abode Valley in Potheri, near Guduvancherry. The majority of the residents were students attending SRM college in Kattankolathur. The police team carried out a massive surprise check on the community, consisting of at least 1,000 police officers.

Nine college students and an unruly person were taken into custody by tambaram police for smuggling ganja and other illegal goods. The tambaram Additional Commissioner of police, C Mageshwari, conducted a search from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm based on a particular tip. 500 female police officers from the Armed Reserve wing made up the squad; they were given particular assignments and broke into the homes at the same time. The crews were instructed to search for any possible drug and tobacco product imprisonment.

Together with the home number and the identities of the occupants, the police gathered up the illegal items. Six ganja chocolates, 20 milliliters of ganja oil, five bhang, one smoking pot, seven hookah machines, and six kilograms of shisha (hookah powder) were found by the police.
