Tamil Nadu government Partners with google to Launch AI Labs

The tamil Nadu government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with google to establish the ‘Tamil Nadu AI Labs’ in Chennai.

Industry and Commerce minister TRB Rajaa announced on X, “We signed an MoU today at google Headquarters to create ‘#TamilNaduAILabs’ at Guidance_TN in Chennai, partnering with Google!”

The initiative aims to train 2 million young people in artificial intelligence through the Naan Mudhalvan program, foster partnerships with startups, and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the rural economy.

This announcement follows chief minister M K Stalin’s recent visit to the United States.

Rajaa noted that the government has signed six MoUs across various sectors, bringing in investments totaling Rs 900 crore and creating over 4,000 high-quality jobs in the state.

These investments include Nokia’s Research and Development Center in Siruseri, PayPal’s expanded AI-ML development center in Chennai, semiconductor innovations by Microchip and Yield Engineering Systems in Coimbatore, an advanced AI technology center by Applied Materials, and Infinx’s technology center in Madurai.

Rajaa concluded, “With #CMStalinInUS, tamil Nadu is entering a new era of tech #RnD, #semiconductors design, and #AI!”

This development underscores the increasing interest of major technology firms in investing in india, driven by the rise in digitalization following the pandemic.

Earlier this month, google began manufacturing its Pixel 8 smartphone in india and is optimistic about the country’s premium smartphone market potential. Additionally, google has secured multiple leases for colocation data centers in noida and Navi mumbai and is reportedly negotiating to acquire a 22.5-acre plot in Navi Mumbai’s Juinagar for its first captive data center in india, valued at Rs 850 crore.
