At Least 20 Dead as Torrential Rains Hit telangana and Andhra; 

Telangana and andhra pradesh have been hit hard by heavy rains for the second consecutive day, resulting in at least 20 fatalities, widespread flooding, and severe disruptions to both road and rail traffic.

The South Central Railway reported that six trains were canceled on monday (September 2) due to flooding on tracks at various locations. On sunday (September 1), 140 trains were canceled and 97 were diverted. Rivers are overflowing, and thousands of people have been evacuated by national and state disaster response forces to relief camps.

The intense rainfall over the past two days, caused by a depression, has led to a flood-like situation in several districts, with vijayawada in andhra pradesh being the hardest hit. Residents in the city have been stranded as their homes were inundated and vehicles were submerged on the streets.

In anticipation of continued heavy rains, schools in hyderabad have been closed, and telangana chief minister A revanth reddy has requested that offices and businesses allow employees to work from home. prime minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister amit shah have spoken with the chief ministers of both states, promising support from the central government.

Telangana government Requests National Calamity Status

In response to the severe flooding, telangana chief minister A revanth reddy has called on the central government to declare the floods a national calamity. The state government plans to send a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi, requesting a visit to the affected areas and formal recognition of the floods as a national emergency.

Congress leader Rahul gandhi expressed his sympathy on social media platform X, stating, “My thoughts are with the people of telangana and andhra pradesh as they face relentless rainfall and devastating floods.
