Bengaluru Initiative Boosts kannada language Revival with school Murals and Renovations

The kannada language has faced challenges, with concerns about its erosion as more people from other states move to work in Karnataka. To address this issue and promote the preservation of kannada, the kannada Manasugala Tanda Bengaluru has launched a project aimed at rejuvenating Kannada-medium schools. This initiative, driven by a passion for cultural preservation, involves extensive mural work and school renovations funded by the team themselves.

According to reports, the Bengaluru-based team selected two government schools for their project: the government kannada Model Primary school in Harugoppa village, belgaum district, and the government Higher Primary school in Hirebudnur village. They invested approximately Rs 1.25 lakh to enhance the schools' appearance by decorating the walls with murals of freedom fighters, as part of their ‘Kannada Schools Must Survive’ campaign.

An official involved in the project explained, “We chose to paint these schools to help preserve the kannada language and make government schools more appealing to students. Our goal is to collaborate with the community to improve these schools and create a better learning environment for the children.”

Under the campaign “Kannada Schools Must Survive, kannada Must Grow,” the team identified schools in poor condition and sent a group of around 50 volunteers to assess and renovate them. The collaborative effort with local villagers has revitalized the schools, encouraging students to engage more enthusiastically in their education. Yallappa Kumbhar, a member of the team, stated, “Our primary aim is to ensure that government kannada schools continue to thrive. By improving these schools, we hope to provide quality education to underprivileged children and motivate them to attend school and excel in their studies.”
