Reaching a height of 1.88 meters, Sharad broke the previous Paralympic record in the T42 category, held by Mariyappan, the silver medallist from the tokyo Games. With a best leap of 1.85 meters, Mariyappan had to settle for bronze this time.
 
The third contender from india, Shailesh Kumar, cleared the height on his second try, but he did not receive a medal despite recording a personal best of 1.85 meters.
