Anushka Sharma Opens Up About Parenting with Virat Kohli

Anushka Sharma made a rare public appearance in mumbai on Wednesday, where she discussed the challenges of parenting with her cricketer husband, Virat Kohli, during a brand event. Speaking at Slurrp Farm’s YES Moms & Dads event, the actress talked about the unrealistic expectations placed on parents to be "perfect" and shared her thoughts on raising their children, Vamika and Akaay.

“There’s a lot of pressure to be a perfect parent,” anushka acknowledged. “But we’re not perfect, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s fine to express our frustrations and admit our flaws in front of our kids, so they understand that we are not infallible.” She highlighted that being open about mistakes can alleviate some of the pressure children feel, explaining, “Imagine if children think, ‘My parents are like this,’ and feel they need to meet those expectations.”

Anushka also reflected on how her social life has changed since becoming a parent. “I can only socialize with people who are in a similar stage of life, and that’s quite rare,” she joked. “When people invite us for dinner, I often think… you’re probably snacking when we have our dinner,” she laughed, recognizing the adjustments required when raising children.

The actress discussed how she and Virat aim to teach their children values by setting an example rather than through direct instruction. “My daughter is very young, and I don’t think direct teaching is effective. It’s more about how we conduct ourselves daily. Are we demonstrating gratitude in our actions? That’s what children learn from,” anushka said. She believes that children learn by observing their environment and adopting behaviors they see. “For them to understand gratitude, they need to witness us being grateful.”

She also mentioned the importance of allowing children to be themselves while providing gentle guidance when necessary. “If they display disrespect, it’s usually just a phase of being kids. You can gently guide them,” anushka explained. “Leading by example is crucial for them to absorb positive traits from their surroundings.”

Professionally, anushka was last seen in the film zero (2018) with Shah Rukh Khan. She is currently looking forward to the release of Chakda Xpress, a biopic about indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
