Vinesh-Punia joined congress without resignation approved!
Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia resigned from their posts in North Railways a few hours before joining congress on friday (September 6, 2024). According to the NDTV report, the Railways has not yet accepted their resignation. According to the report, Vinesh and Poonia can neither join any party nor contest elections until their resignation is accepted.
Vinesh had resigned from the post of Railways
Before formally joining the congress, Vinesh Phogat resigned from the post of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) sports in North Railways citing personal reasons. Vinesh posted on instagram and wrote, "Serving indian Railways has been a memorable and proud time in my life. At this point in my life, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent officials of the indian Railways. I will always be grateful to the indian Railways family for this opportunity given to me by the Railways in the service of the nation."
Railways did not accept the resignation of wrestlers
Bajrang Punia also resigned from the railway job before joining the congress, he was on the post of Officer on Special Duty in the indian Railways. According to the report, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia took membership of the congress party without getting their resignation approved from the Railways. According to the service rules, one cannot join any party or contest elections without getting the resignation approved.
While inducting Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia into the congress, congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had claimed that the railway officials had sent a show cause notice to Vinesh Phogat. According to the report, the Railways rejected his claims and said that the notice was issued to the wrestler not on friday (September 6, 2024) but on wednesday (September 4, 2024), which said that wrestlers are involved in political activities, which is not allowed as per the service rules.
