Kedarnath Landslides: Death Toll Rises to 5

Uttarakhand Landslides: The death toll from the landslide on the kedarnath route has increased to five. On tuesday, officials confirmed that four additional bodies were recovered from the debris, following the landslide that occurred around 7:20 pm on Monday.

The Rudraprayag police have reported that more pilgrims might still be trapped under the rubble. The landslide struck as a group of pilgrims was returning from Kedarnath. Emergency services, including the SDRF and NDRF, quickly launched a rescue operation. They initially retrieved the body of a pilgrim named Gopal (50) from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. During the operation, three other survivors were rescued and transported to Sonprayag.

Rescue efforts were briefly halted due to severe weather and falling boulders on monday night but resumed on tuesday morning. The recovery team managed to find and identify four additional victims: Durgabai Khapar (50) from Ghat district, Madhya Pradesh; Titli Devi (70) from Vaidehi village, Dhanwa district, Nepal; Saman Bai (50) from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh; and Bharat Bhai Niralal (52) from Surat, Gujarat.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in this incident.
