PM Modi to Inaugurate Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Project Phase II on september 16

PM Modi gujarat Visit: prime minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit gujarat on september 15 and will officially inaugurate the extension of the metro rail connecting ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on september 16. This extension aims to enhance connectivity between the two cities. During his two-day visit to his home state, the prime minister will also launch the Phase 2 extension of the ahmedabad metro. Additionally, he will participate in various other events, as announced by the gujarat government.

This visit marks PM Modi's first trip to gujarat since beginning his third term in office on june 9.

Project Details: According to the gujarat government, the first part of Phase 2 covers 21 kilometers and introduces eight new metro stations. This extension will provide efficient transportation to both residential and commercial areas. Part two of Phase 1, currently under construction, will link Sector 1 in Gandhinagar to mahatma Mandir.

Developed by the gujarat Metro rail Corporation (GMRC) in partnership with both the state and central governments, the project will broaden the metro network, connecting key locations between ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The new metro phase will serve important destinations such as gujarat National Law university (GNLU), Pandit Deendayal Energy university (PDEU), gift City, Raysan, Randesan, Dholakuva, Infocity, and Sector-1.

The extension from Motera to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1 will connect significant hubs like gift City, improving access for professionals, students, and tourists.

Cost and Funding: The total cost of Phase 2 is Rs 5,384 crore, funded through loans from international financial institutions including AFD (France) and KfW (Germany). The new route will also lower travel expenses for commuters, allowing trips between APMC and gift City to be completed in under an hour for approximately Rs 35.
