For thousands of highly qualified individuals, the hope of receiving an EB-2 visa in 2024 has just hit a wall, causing worry and fear. The U.S. Department has announced that all EB-2 visas available for this fiscal year have been awarded in cooperation with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services (USCIS). It feels like the door is closing for many who have spent months or even years building their cases; at least until the next Fiscal Year (FY).

Not only are these visas documents, but they also hold hope for a great number of people who have devoted a great deal of time and effort to advancing their jobs, funding their studies, and lending their knowledge to continuously support the American economy. Medical professionals, IT innovators, and holders of advanced degrees are all left wondering what the future holds for them. One candidate claims, "I've been waiting months for my application to move forward." "The waiting is made more difficult by the knowledge that they have run out of visas for this year."

The number of employment-based visas that are granted each year is strictly limited under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Of all employment-based visas, the EB-2 category is allocated 28.6% of total allocations. Additionally, the immigrants are panicking since the visa cap has now been surpassed. After doing their share to make the most of this year's visa, embassies and consulates have decided to stop issuing EB-2 visas until the following fiscal year, which starts on october 1, 2024. The next several months will be unpredictable for those who are still in line. For those who have already been waiting, there will be a lengthy wait until their time comes. But waiting is never simple.
