CBI custody of sandeep Ghosh and Abhijit extended…
In the kolkata rape murder case, the Sealdah court on tuesday (September 17) extended the cbi custody of former hospital principal sandeep Ghosh and police officer Abhijit Mandal for three days. Both are being questioned in the case of rape and murder of a junior doctor in the hospital. Ghosh and Mandal, the officer in charge of Tala police station, were questioned by the cbi on monday and asked for detailed information about their activities immediately after receiving the news of the doctor being found dead in the hospital on august 9.
What did the cbi say in court?
The Central Bureau of Investigation lawyer told the court that the continuous conversation between Ghosh and Mandal on the morning of august 9, when the victim's body was recovered from the seminar hall of the hospital, indicated that they were involved in some kind of conspiracy in this case. He also said that the call details of both Ghosh and Mandal show that these people had made repeated calls to some "suspicious" numbers during that period and further interrogation of both is needed in this regard, so it is necessary to extend the custody period of both.
'Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mandal not cooperating in the investigation'
The lawyer also said that both Ghosh and Mandal were not cooperating with the investigating officers during the interrogation. Ghosh and Mandal were questioned face-to-face about their actions after the recovery of the doctor's body on august 9. The cbi focused on the delay in filing the FIR, the time of post-mortem and the series of phone calls between them during the investigation. On Saturday, the cbi arrested Mandal on charges of tampering with evidence and delaying the FIR. Ghosh, already in custody for alleged financial irregularities, is now also accused of tampering with evidence in the case.
