The person is seen standing in the aisle in the widely shared footage. He has a bag on his chest and is dressed in a light blue T-shirt. "My name is Mohammed, the slave of Allah," he shouted, threatening both the passengers and the cabin crew. He also demanded that other passengers repeat the same words. He is heard saying, "Are you a slave of Allah, say it, say it."
The passenger allegedly continued by threatening to detonate the aircraft. According to media accounts, when the flight crew investigated his backpack later on, they discovered no bombs within.
Malaysian airlines claimed in a statement that the aircraft was turned around because there was a “disruptive passenger onboard” in reference to the flight's return to its base.
