Atishi to be Sworn in as delhi chief minister on september 21

Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi and her cabinet will take the oath of office on september 21, according to the aam aadmi party (AAP). Initially, only Atishi was set to be sworn in, but it was later decided that her entire council of ministers would also take the oath.

Arvind kejriwal resigned from the chief minister position on Tuesday, after which Atishi claimed the mandate to form a new government. This announcement followed a proposal by delhi Lt governor V K Saxena for the swearing-in date.

‘Low-Key Affair’
The AAP previously stated that kejriwal would relinquish his security and vacate the chief minister’s residence within 15 days to live as a “commoner.” The oath-taking ceremony is expected to be held at raj Niwas and described as a “low-key affair” due to the circumstances surrounding Kejriwal’s resignation. Atishi has expressed that this is a deeply sad moment and requested party leaders and supporters not to congratulate her.

Following a meeting with the Lt governor, Atishi formally claimed the right to form the new government after Kejriwal's resignation.

Council of Ministers
As Atishi prepares to assume her role as chief minister, speculation about her cabinet members has increased. AAP sources indicate that Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, who served in Kejriwal’s previous cabinet, will be retained, along with two new party MLAs.

The new chief minister will need to prove her government’s majority in the delhi Assembly, which is scheduled to meet on september 26-27. The assembly’s term concludes on february 23 next year, with elections anticipated in early February.

BJP Critiques AAP
Meanwhile, AAP has claimed that if the bjp gains power in delhi, it will halt all free government services, including free electricity, mohalla clinics, and education. The bjp has countered these claims, accusing AAP of misleading the public. AAP leader Sanjay Singh stated that only kejriwal is committed to providing these services to delhi residents, despite opposition from the BJP. He asserted that without kejriwal, the bjp would terminate these benefits.

In response, delhi bjp president Virendra Sachdeva accused Singh of misinformation, stating that just months ago, the Lt governor affirmed that free services like electricity, water, and ration would continue.
