shankar recently disclosed that he started work on the film adaptation of S. Venkatesan's novel Velpari, which started during the Covid shutdown. He is now irritated, though, since he claims that a forthcoming movie has taken major sequences and narrative aspects from the book without his permission. shankar took to X to voice his worries, saying that he was troubled to see significant passages from the novel used in a new movie trailer as the copyright holder.

Threatening legal action for infringement, he cautioned against unapproved adaptations and pleaded with filmmakers to uphold the rights of inventors. There is a lot of conjecture on social media regarding the movie that shankar is alluding to. Many think it may be Suriya's Kanguva or NTR's Devara, which both just released trailers—Devara being the most recent.

Since Suriya is from tamil cinema and may be less likely to steal scenes from Velpari—especially since shankar was already working on the adaptation—Devara is more likely to be the movie in issue. shankar had high expectations for the Velpari adaption, with key roles being considered for prominent names like kgf Yash, ram Charan, and Ranveer Singh. But the debate poses a danger to his project's intended course.
