The much awaited movie love and war, directed by sanjay leela bhansali, is creating a lot of talk in Bollywood. The epic romance based on raj Kapoor’s Sangam, starring ranbir kapoor, alia bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, is planned to go on floors in october 2024, with a release date of march 20, 2026, coinciding with Gudi Padwa and Eid celebrations.

Surprisingly, Bhansali has decided to finance the movie himself, taking the lead from production companies such as YRF and red Chillies. He has signed a near-record music deal with Saregama and a sizable non-theatrical agreement with Netflix. According to sources, Netflix has agreed to a basic fee of Rs 130 crore, with more payments possible depending on how well the movie does at the box office. Furthermore, Saregama has already paid Rs 35 crore for the music rights, while talks regarding a Rs 50 crore satellite agreement are still underway. love and war has the potential to earn an additional Rs 215 crore in non-theatrical income.

Bhansali decided against working with a studio after receiving proposals for a blanket agreement for Rs 350 crore from a number of them. Vicky Kaushal, alia bhatt, and ranbir kapoor have all signed backend contracts with Bhansali; according to reports, Ranbir will receive a sizeable portion of the theatrical receipts. Along with looking at selling the film's worldwide distribution rights, sanjay leela bhansali intends to use the money from non-theatrical rights sales to pay for the film's estimated Rs 200 crore in production expenses.

The fact that Shah Rukh Khan's next movie, KING, is scheduled for an Eid 2026 release, complicates the release plan for the movie. This has raised rumors that love and war, directed by ranbir kapoor, is being positioned as a direct competitor for the movie. Given that both movies are slated for release during the same timeframe, it appears that Ranbir Kapoor's crew is preparing for a significant box office confrontation with Shah Rukh Khan, the current superstar of Bollywood.
