Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to maintain "full force" military operations against Hezbollah until the terrorist organization stops firing rockets, marking a significant escalation of the ongoing Israel-Lebanon confrontation.

The US and european authorities had been lobbying for a temporary cease-fire in order to prevent an all-out conflict, but Netanyahu's position dashed their hopes.

Israel killed Mohammed Hussein Surour, a prominent Hezbollah leader, on thursday by carrying out an attack in Beirut.

Here are the top developments in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict:

• While attending the UN General assembly in New York, Netanyahu reiterated Israel's determination to pursue Hezbollah. "We are continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force," he said. "And we will not stop until we reach all our goals, chief among them the return of the residents of the north securely to their homes."

• In spite of Israel's uncompromising stance, the united states and france persisted in their attempts to broker a 21-day truce. Prominent diplomats, such as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Mideast envoy Brett McGurk, are now in talks with Israeli authorities to discuss the proposed truce.

israel was properly briefed of the ceasefire plan, according to white house spokeswoman john Kirby, and French President Emmanuel Macron voiced optimism that Tel Aviv's decision was not definitive. "It would be a mistake by the prime minister to refuse it because he would be taking responsibility for regional escalation," Macron stated.

• Lebanese Foreign minister Abdallah Bou Habib asked for a quick ceasefire during a General assembly meeting, stating that the crisis is "threatening the very existence" of Lebanon.

• Hezbollah drone commander Mohammed Hussein Surour was killed in a "precise" hit on Beirut, according to an announcement made by israel that the terrorist organization subsequently verified. The Lebanese health ministry reports that at least two people died and fifteen people were injured as a result of the strike.

• Hezbollah fired around 45 rockets into northern israel on thursday in retaliation to Israeli attacks; all of the missiles were either intercepted or fell into uninhabited regions.
