Diwali-Chhath Puja 2024: 12,500 General Coaches to Be Added in Special Trains

As the festive season approaches, securing a confirmed train seat from delhi to bihar continues to be a challenge, particularly during diwali and Chhath Puja when thousands travel home. In response, indian Railways has announced special arrangements to accommodate passengers. Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently revealed that 12,500 general coaches will be added to 108 special trains for this festive period.

This initiative aims to enhance passenger convenience, as many Biharis return home during these festivals, leading to a surge in demand for transportation. Currently, 5,975 trains are scheduled for the 2024-25 financial year, and with this addition, it is estimated that around 1 crore passengers will benefit from the expanded services.

Last year, indian Railways operated 4,429 special trains during the festive season, and this year’s plan includes over a thousand more trains. All zones of indian Railways have released schedules for special trains, with the Northern Railway leading with 130 planned services. The South Central Railway (SCR) will operate 104 special trains, while the east Central Railway (ECR) has announced 99 trains. These measures are designed to ensure a smooth travel experience for all passengers during the festive rush.
